Managing Public Affairs Assists in Acheiving Business Objectives
SPEM communication group and London School of Public Relations (LSPR) hosted around 150 communication experts and practicians from eleven countries on the International Conference on Communication Practice in Portorož 2004. The conclusion of the conference is, that the communication with social and political environment is becoming increasingly important for corporate operations.
A traditional two-day International Conference on Communication Practice in Portorož began on September 24th, implementing the slogan "Beyond the known is the world". The conference has united around 150 experts and practicians from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia and Montenegro, Great Britain and the United States of America. The theme, leading the lecturers and the participants trough-out the two days, is that the organisations are operating in the environment, full of challenges. Proper responses to market influences as well as to political, judicial and social environment influences are much needed for successful operations and achievement of business goals. The conference, organised by SPEM in co-operation with LSPR, presented public affairs as tools for interpretation of different environments and projected management of these environments. The first part of the program was intended to familiarise the participants with the vast array of public affairs, the second part to their implementation in the individual corporations and the third part with their political implications. The round table of this years conference has hosted an up-to-date discussion in the field of public relations, entitled "Patient of the future – challenges for communication". The conference has come to an end on Saturday, September 25th, 2004.
Božidar Novak, Director of SPEM Communication Group, emphasised in the introductory greeting: "The conference, organised in co-operation with London School of Public Relations, functions as a forum for communicators, allowing them an insight into the trends and development of the profession. This is why the main theme is about public affairs, which will, as shown by experiences in other European counties, gain in importance on exercising our profession. The conference is one of the pioneer contributions to the development of public affairs in the region of South Eastern Europe. The primary intention of the lectures is to encourage thinking, questions and themes, to ensure some answers, but most of all to encourage the participants to seek further knowledge."
